Standing Watch was inspired by a familiar scene at the Fort Fisher ferry landing, where birds often gather on the large pilings. Watching them there, I am reminded of the history of Fort Fisher and the men who once stood watch over the entrance to the Cape Fear River and the Port of Wilmington. Fort Fisher Ferry Dock, NC.
